How to do series on a TI 84 calc?

How to do series on a TI 84 calc?

Does anyone know how I can tell what whether a series converges or diverges and to what value by using a TI-84? I would be VERY appreciative cause my instructor is fine with calculator use to double check my answers on a test.

Thanks!

What sort of series?. Can you give something specific?. Do you have your manual?. If not, go here and get it:

http://education.ti.com/guidebooks/grap ... rt2_EN.pdf

Also, you can get many cool calculus programs at http://www.ticalc.org for the 84. I think there is one there for convergence tests.

I have a nice convergence program on my Voyage 200 and TI-92, but I don't know if they are compatible with the 84.

If you are interested in the programs at the site, you will need the GraphLink.

I would assume it is similar to the 92 or Voyage 200.

For the 84, go to 2nd LIST. You will find sum(

Example, say you wanted to find what the series $\sum_{k=1}^{\infty}\frac{n}{5^n}$ converged to.

Type in: $sum(n/5^n,n,1,\infty)$

You should find the solution is 5/16

Hope this helps a wee bit anyway.

Thanks a bunch galactus! Is it easy to install the programs?
Much appreciated, I will try your method with sums.
Does anyone know how to type the symbol infinity in on the TI-84? i looked in the manual and came up null.
