sandcastles game

Postby frankpupu » Wed Feb 15, 2012 7:25 pm

Charlie and Lora are having a mud fight trying to the other one's sand castle. This is achieved as soon as all towers have been destroyed.CHarelie's castle has 3 towers,Lola's castle has 2 towers. In any of her attempts, Lola hits one of Charlie's towers with a probability of p and none with probability q=1-p,Assume that the attempts are independent of each other. then
1)Let k be natural number, Calculate the probability that it takes Lora k attempts until she hits one of Charlie's towers.

attemp: since every time Lola hits the towers, she has 2 choices for one of them ,then for k times we have P=((2(1-p))^(k-1))*(2p)

2)Calculate the probability that it takes Lola k attempts to destroy Charlie's castle.
i don't know how to consider the situation in this quesiton
