Although there is no prescribed criterion for becoming a moderator, a certain number of conditions usually apply:

Need for new moderators-
Quality and quantity of the contributions (there's no point giving moderating rights to someone who is never around, except for honorary moderators of course

)

Co-opting factor: moderators are often naturally proposed by the moderators' community

Trust factor: some good old gut feeling

And since this forum is apolitical, I guess nobody will reproach me for the lack of democracy in the appointment process
