Latex + Upgrade of the forums coming soon

Hello everybody,

Since I am currently enjoying some vacation, I have decided to upgrade the forums and to enable the use of Latex typesetting.

A) Upgrade of the forums

We will be shifting to the newest version (3) of the boards (which you have been able to experience at http://www.mycomputerforum.com). The reasons for the shift are multiple: more efficient admin tools, more pleasant skin, easier integration of Latex (knowing that the website is not hosted on a dedicated server yet, Latex integration requires some workarounds and special server authorizations); ultimately, our version of the board will cease to be supported in half a year or so, which may eventually pose security and compatibility threats if we decide to stick with it.

B) Latex integration

I've been working on it today and have already set up a replica of the forum; results are pretty good but I plan to find a way to add image caching in order to optimize server CPU usage.

C) Downtime ?

I will take the steps to guarantee a minimal downtime (which will correspond to the time necessary to convert our database and restore it onto the new boards). Latex integration will be immediate, and I will try to provide links to easy Latex tutorials for those of you who are not yet familiar with it (from the meager experience of it, it's actually quite easy to use but tedious to master).
