Need a Comprehensive Calculus Book

Postby jonow » Thu Oct 20, 2011 1:24 am

I am currently a senior and taking Calculus 1AB. The book (Calculus: Graphical, Numerical, Algebraic) my teacher currently uses does not explain the concepts very well or in depth. It seems to only explain it simply and then as practice give tough problems. Also the wording is very difficult.

I was wondering if anybody can suggest a good Calculus 1 AB book for high school that explains the concepts in an easy to understand manner and explains them rather than just showing methods. What I mean by explaining concepts is that I would like a book that shows you WHY some operation does what it does and HOW.

So if anybody knows of a book like that it would be quite helpful. Thank you.

I like Leithold's TC7:

The College Board has a list of textbooks for AB Calc here:

though I can't pick out any of them in particular as especially good.
Pari/GP: this is the program I probably mentioned in my post. Windows users can get it at http://pari.math.u-bordeaux.fr/~bill/mingw/PARI-2-6.exe
